Shower Your Way To Better Health With A Shower Water Filter
Installing a shower water filter is a smart move as part of your home’s water treatment plan. Your skin is the largest organ on your body and absorbs whatever it comes in contact with... even if it isn’t good for you. Also, when shower water vaporizes, the chlorine and other chemicals in the water from your municipal or well water system are inhaled into your lungs, another organ designed to absorb what it comes in contact with. Factor this in with the cosmetic benefits of healthier hair and skin and you will see that installing a filter on your shower makes good sense. There are many choices for consumers when shopping for a shower water filter. My favorite is the Sprite SF001, costing about $41. The replacement filter is only $25, giving it a daily operating cost of about $0.11 a day. It has the strongest housing on the market, up to 600 psi. They claim a 1 year life based on average water usage. Independent tests have shown this filter to remove 99 percent of chlorine and chloramines. In addition, it will remove a good portion of the VOC’s, THM’s, pesticides, heavy metals and other impurities that are often found in our municipal water supply. This Sprite filter doesn’t come with a shower head, but its quality and low cost of operation offsets this lack.
Crystal Quest offers three different styles of their Luxury Shower Power shower filters. The fixed model is $49.95 and can be ordered with an optional massager head. The hand held model comes with a 3 setting massager built in which is convenient for bathing small children and pets, and costs $49.95. The combo style has both a fixed shower head and a hand held attachment that allows the flexibility and convenience of both styles and runs $64.95. Each Crystal Quest model is an easy-to-install two stage filtration system. If you’re looking for something more modern, you can get a Paragon european-style 6" showerhead with 60 nozzles that create a luxurious shower experience. You can’t even tell it has a filter in it and yet it will remove 99 percent of the chlorine from your water, along with most other heavy metals. This is a very attractive option, especially if you do not like the appearance of most of most shower filters. Paragon makes the PRS1 model and it sells for $57.99. Another option for improving your shower water is the Aquasana AQ-4100. This shower filter uses a two stage filtration system and is installed in seconds. The AQ-4100 meets the requirements of the California Dept. of Health. The average cost to operate this filter is about $0.20 per day. It comes with an adjustable pressure shower head and has a 6 month/10,000 gallon filter life. The cost is $67.99. Aquasan offers an optional hand held attachment available for a little bit more. These are a few of the hundreds of options available when purchasing a shower water filter. Almost all of them offer different finishes including white, black, gold, brown, antique brass, chrome and polished nickel. You will need a minimal number of tools, a little teflon tape and a few minutes to install most shower filters. |
